BHIMSEN TEMPLE

Bhimshen Temple is 100 meter south of Kasthamandap. It is a three-storied temple with the statue of Bhimsen, god of wealth. It is believed that one would excel in their business if they worship Bhimsen regularly. Close to the temple are the statues of Dropati, Arjun, Nakul and Shahadev, who are the central characters in the Hindu epic, Mahabharata.

On the western side of the Dattatraya Temple is a two-storied pagoda temple of Bhimsen built in 1657 AD by King Jagat Prakash Malla. Bhimsen is worshipped as a deity of wealth and prosperity by the Newari community. The temple witnesses a crowd of worshippers, mostly businesspersons, during Saturdays. A large number of devotees gather in front of this temple once every year to celebrate Hoil, the festival of colors.
