BHOTO JATRA

  The tradition of Bhoto Jatra' n is associated with a popular it folklore from Kathmandu valley. il It is said a peasant from Jyapu it community in Bhaktapur had e received a jewel studded vest or s 'Bhoto' from `Karkotak Nag' . as reward for curing his wife's )t eye problem. One day, a demon I, stole the bejeweled vest from its ;I owner. During a Machhindranath k festival, the peasant came across e the demon donning the vest. Dispute erupted between the two. , The vest was left in the custody of the Machhindranath after the two failed to prove ownership over the precious vest. From the day onwards started the tradition of Bhoto Jatra, where the legendary vest is displayed to the crowd, a gesture calling on the rightful owner to claim the Bhoto. The Bhoto Jatra festival also marks the end of Machhindranath chariot procession.
