GHANDRUK


The Annapurna Base Camp Trekking Route passes through Ghandruk that lies at an t.de of 2020 meters. The picturesque hamlet is also a major tourist destination of Kaski district. Located against the backdrop of the Machhapuchhre and Annapurna ranges,Ghandruk's fame has spread beyond Nepal's border. The village is a must visit for nature walk,mountain viewing and observing of indigenous traditions. The village is largely populated Gurung community. Many young men from Ghandruk are either 'Lahures' (Members of e Gurkha Regiments) or migrant workers. From Ghandruk, one could view Machhapuchre ad Annapurna peaks that directly face the village. A trip to Ghandruk takes just three days, it the trekkers prefer to travel beyond Tadhapani, Ghorepani, Poonhill, Chhomrong to the rinapuma Base Camp. Mules are the only means of transportation in this region. The high anspot cost increases the price of commodity, too. The local tourism committee here has !tooted uniform price for meal and accommodation to prevent unfair competition. The iute to Ghandruk from Nayapul is trodden by many tourists and considered the safest. round 80 hotels and lodges of various sizes serve tourists in Ghandruk, most of them perated by the indigenous Gurung people. The 43 km ride along the Pokhara-Baglung ig'way ends at Nayapul. From Nayapul, one should walk along the bank of Modi River aoss Birethati, Syaulibazar Kimche to Kling. An uphill climb for 4-5 hours that follows a ng line of stone paved path leads to Ghandruk.
