POONHILL

 The village of Poonhill located at an altitude of 3210 meters is a famous tourist destination of Myagdi district. The Ghorepani-Poonnhill route along the Ghara village is renowned all over. The region is also famous for rhododendron flower; 16 different species of rhododendron bloom here in the spring season. Ghorepani also serves as the entry point to the Poonhill and Annapurna Base Camp trekking route, which is said to be world's top trekking route. Magnificent Himalayan peaks, including Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri and Machhapuchhre can be observed Ghorepani-Poonhill. The place is also famous for sunrise view. Poonhill is also an excellent site to observe the diverse flora and fauna and experience the traditional culture of the hospitable Magar community. The best time to visit Poonhill is between the autumn and spring seasons when rows of the snow blanketed mountain peaks could be viewed at a reaching distance. Poonhill can be reached after 30-35 minutes uphill hike from Ghorepani. To reach Ghorepani, one must take 43 km bus ride from Pokhara. A trekking trail along the riverbank along Birethati, Sudame, Hile, Tikhedhunga, and Ulleri leads to Ghorepani, which should take at least two days. The trekking route through Ghandruk should also take not more than two days for one to reach Poonhill.
