GOSAINKUNDA

Gosainkunda Lake is one of the important holy sites of Nepal. The alpine freshwater lake lies at an altitude of 4350 m above sea level. Gosainkunda is situated in Syapru VDC of Rasuwa in the Bagmati zone and carries natural and religious significance. It as important religious conservation area in the Langtang National Park. According to Hindu mythology, when lord Shiva churned primordial ocean to produce elixir of etenal life, the ocean also issued poison. Lord Shiva drank the poison to save the universe, but the poison caused severe burning sensation on his throat. To cool down is burning throat, lord Shiva struck his trident into a rock that took a form of the ;osainkunda lake. A big fair takes place during the Jana' Purnima (The sacred thread mtival) and Dasahara every year. Many tourists trek to Gosainkunda and the Langtang Iimal through the scenic route that starts from Sundarijal in Kathmandu as well )hunchhe of Rasuwa. Gosainkunda lake lies at high altitude, close to the mountain dx1 remains frozen during the winter. Gosainkunda is famous for its biological diversity nd is supposed to have 105 ponds around. Bhairavkunda, Amakunda, Suryakunda, iaraswaitkunda are popular lakes in the region.
