NARAYANHITI PALACE MUSEUM
Narayanhiti Palace Museum is situated at Durbar Marg (King's Way). After the People's rit of 2006, the palace was made into a museum. The name Narayanihiti comes from two ilarayan' (Hindu diety Vishnu) and 'Hiti' (water spout in Newari). The Narayanihiti Palace be the residence of various Shah Kings who ruled the country until 2006. Ranodeep Rana d the palace from Kaji Dhokal Singh Basnet which was established as the Royal Palace umsher Rana in 1903 B.S. After King Prithivi Bir Bikram Shah married the daughter of Bir r, the royal residence was shifted from Hanuman Dhoka Palace to Narayanhiti Palace. The palace built during the time of the King Prithivi Bir Bikram Shah was destroyed during ttiguake of 1990 B.S. which was renovated and turned into Tribhuvan Residence by King an Bir Bikram Shah during his rule. The palace witnessed the massacre of the Royal family n in 3estha 19, 2058 B.S. The museum is inspired by Western architecture and it stands vest testimony of the lives lived by the Shah royals. At the entrance of the palace is Kaski here the royals held parties for the newly appointed state officials and foreign diplomats. was also used to administer oath and receive credentials by the then royals from ministers kbassadors. The museum has 52 rooms named after various districts of Nepal. The main Dm of the museum are Gorkha Hall and Tribhuvan Residence. In the Gorkha Hall, there ious paintings and the eight feet long throne used by the Shah kings. The images of aag, Astamaatrika and Astabhairav are on the pillars in the hall. Tribhuvan Residence Dnly section of the museum that was retained after the Royal Massacre. The building massacre occurred was destroyed. The museum closes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
