RANI POKHARI

Ranipokhari was built by King Pratap MaIla in 1670 A.D to console his grief-stricken queen after the death of their son, Chakrapatendra MaIla. Water from different Hindu religious sites like Baranasi, Mukti Chhetra, Barah Chhetra, Trishuli and Gosainkunda were brought to fill the pond. A temple of lord Shiva was constructed in the middle of the pond. To the south is a stone sculpture of the king and his son riding an elephant. The pond is opened for visitors twice every year on Bhai Tika and Chhath festival.
