SWAYAMBHUNATH STUP


Swayambhunath Stupa, the famous pilgrimage site for Buddhists, situated eoPp a hill with a commanding view of the sprawling Kathmandu valley. It is a hoty Stupa among the ancient Buddhist Mahachaitya of the valley, also known to the tourists as 'Monkey Temple' for the monkeys that dwells around the place. Swayambhunath Stupa was built in the 5th century during the Lichhavi period by Kushan Community. Its surrounding are full of temples, monasteries ald statues dedicated to different deities like Anantapur, Pratapur, Agnipur, Harati Mata, Shantipur, Buddha, Busupur, Dipankar, Shree Karma Raj, Maha v.anjushree and Saraswati. The UNESCO has listed Swayambhunath Stupa as a world heritage site. There is a Bishwo Shanti (world peace) pond near the Stupa.
