Aakash Bhairav

Within 200 meter distance from Kathmandu Durbar Square is a temple of Aakash Bhairav in Indrachowk. Inside this temple is a huge head of  Aakash Bhairav. The head is regarded as the head of Kirati King, Yalamber. It is believed that in the Mahabharata war between the Pandavas and Kaurava, which is depicted in the Bhagwat Gita, King  Yalamber had raised his voice to fight in favour of the losing side Knowing beforehand that the battle  between Yalamber and Pandavas would never end, Lord Krishna used a trick and beheaded the Kirati King. The head, it is said, was enshrined in this temple by the Kirati people. Within the temple premises are also idols of different deities. This temple is plated by brass resplendent with different carved designs and paintings. Taking photograph of Aakash Bhairav or the head of King Yalambar is prohibited.
