WAKUPATI NARAYAN TEMPLE

 The temple of Wakupati e Narayan is one of the ancient e shrines of Bhaktapur. Enshrined !s inside this two-storied pagoda temple is an idol of lord Vishnu carved on black shaligram (fossil stone) adorned with different Le jewelleries. It is said the temple 0 construction was commissioned e by King Baldev by providence It of lord Vishnu. In the Newari a dialect, Waku also called Kharphan in Nepali stands for a e traditional instrument of haulage e with two baskets hanging from either side of a bamboo pole carried over a shoulder. The idol of Wakupati Narayan is believed to have been originated from a waku. Several attempts have been made in the past to steal this idol, forcing the authorities to surround the temple with layers of steel bars. The door of this temple is opened twice every day for the devotees. In the courtyard of this temple are four pillars bearing the statues of Garuda. Behind the temple are installations of images of ten different avatars (incarnation) of lord Vishnu. Idols of goddesses Navaduga and Bangalamukhi are also nearby.
