UNMUKTA BHAIRAV

The enormous idol of Unmukta Bhairav is housed in a small pagoda-style temple established to the south of the Pashupatinath Temple. The idol is kept bound by iron chains due to the free-spirited nature of the deity. The idol of Bhairav brandishing ten different magical weapons and wearing a garland of human skulls is simply awe-inspiring and appears fearful. The wrathful Bhairav, stepping upon Betal with right leg and Sesh Naag with the left, is worshipped to get rid of bad omens and popular among women, for it is believed to cure infertility.
