VIRUPAKSHA

 The idol of Virupaksha is situated to the east of the f Pashupatinath temple on the west  bank of the Bagmati River. It is considered as an incarnation of I lord Shiva. In traditional belief, it is said if this half-buried idol t pushes out entirely out of the s earth then it would bring about apocalypse. The idol is also Iknown as Kali. Also, situated  nearby is the stone idol of Mrigeshwor Mahadev, lord Shiva in a form of a deer. It is worshipped as the oldest idol of the Pashupati area and the original Pashupatinath. Likewise it is believed that the drops of water offered to the idol of Mrigeshwor Mahadev should also fall upon the Virupaksha.
