SUNDARI CHOWK

Near Mohankali Chowk, there is a courtyard of Sundari Chowk. Compared to other courtyards, it covers small area but it possesses a distinct design, a fine showmanship of Newari craftsmanship. This courtyard is believed to be built by King Pratap Malta in memory of his beloved queen, Rupmati, who had died at a young age. It is surrounded by three-storied palace with a magnificent peacock window. It also has a well and a Mandap. On the middle of the courtyard, there is approximately 10 feet deep golden metal tap with the idols of different gods and goddess. The most striking feature of this courtyard is image of Lord Krishna fighting Kalinaag carved out of single stone.
